Equine Therapy and Art Therapy

Art Therapy has demonstrated significant efficacy on its own. However, in conjunction with Equine Assisted Therapy, horses will be utilized a canvases, which will result in having the ability to instill the art with movement and unique placement and patterns, and to foster communication and dialogue with the participant and therapist.

What is Equine Therapy

The focus of EAP  involves setting up ground activities involving the horses.

EAP is a powerful and effective therapeutic approach that has an incredible impact on individuals, youth, families, and groups.

EAP addresses a variety of mental health needs including attention deficit disorder, PTSD, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and communication needs.

Clients are much more open to receiving feedback from an animal as compared to a human therapist.

Session Model

Equine therapy begins each session or group with an assessment or check-in process with the client. Next the client moves into observing the horses. The next step is to move into the arena for some work with the horse from the ground: this includes walking the horse, grooming, and spending time with the horse. After this time the staff will lead the client through a set of activities that are determined based on the check-in from earlier – the evaluation process. The final part of the session is wrapped up back where we started by a licensed mental health counselor checking in with the client to establish how the session went and providing feedback or guidance to the client.
